PADI Rescue Diver
Broaden your view beyond your own diving. In the Rescue Diver course you learn to recognise stress and difficulties in yourself and others, organise help and practise rescue skills under guidance.

- You are considering a professional path
- You dive regularly with friends or family
Course overview
- Certification
- PADI Rescue Diver / Junior Rescue Diver
- Prerequisites
- Adventure Diver incl. Navigation, or equivalent; first aid/CPR within 24 months
What you learn
Prevention and self-rescue
Recognise your own limits, notice stress and deal with difficulties while diving.
Helping other divers
Practise assisting tired, panicked or unresponsive divers — at the surface and underwater.
Search and rescue
Train search patterns, assisted ascents, transport and exits in guided exercises.
Managing emergencies
Call for help, share tasks within the team and get to know emergency equipment, including emergency oxygen.
The course trains learning objectives under guidance; it is not a professional water-rescue qualification.

How the course works
The course is built in three parts:
- Theory: preparation with PADI learning materials; eLearning lets you study before you arrive. It includes knowledge reviews and a final exam.
- Practice: a review of self-rescue skills and ten rescue exercises.
- Application: two open-water rescue scenarios bring the skills together.
The course demands attention, teamwork and physical effort. Skills are built step by step and then applied in simulated emergencies.
Certification
After successfully completing all requirements you receive the PADI Rescue Diver or Junior Rescue Diver certification.
Requirements
- You need a PADI Adventure Diver certification with the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive completed, or an equivalent recognised qualification. PADI Advanced Open Water Diver meets this diving requirement. If your certification is from another organisation, we check the requirements with you.
- You also need current CPR and first-aid training from the past 24 months, for example EFR Primary and Secondary Care. We clarify in advance whether your existing certificate can be accepted. A purely online first-aid course without practical training is not sufficient.
- Before diving you complete the medical questionnaire. If required, a doctor's clearance is needed.
- PADI generally allows Junior Rescue Diver from age 12; ages 12–14 receive the junior certification. Participants under 15: please check with us in advance.
- Dive insurance: Participation requires valid dive accident and liability insurance cover that is sufficient for the booked activity in Spain. Existing suitable cover is accepted on proof. Without sufficient cover, participation is not possible. Anyone without proof can take out a day insurance from Scuba Medic with us on site for €10 per diving day.
Rescue Diver and EFR
EFR covers first aid and CPR. Rescue Diver focuses on recognising and managing problems while diving. Current first-aid training is a requirement for completing Rescue Diver.

Frequently asked questions

How recent must my first-aid certificate be?
From the past 24 months, including practical training.
Can I do the theory before I arrive?
Yes, with PADI eLearning.
How demanding is the practical training?
It requires attention, teamwork and physical effort; skills are built step by step.
